Try It Yourself!

Anyone with a Guitar is Encouraged to Try It Yourself!

Start by changing the standard tuning so that all strings are tuned to whatever note you decide to use for the open strings. The typical strings sets have a range of notes that they are able to be tuned to, with the thicker strings having lower octaves than the thinner ones. To get the desired open string notes some of the strings will have to be tightened or loosened. (Obviously never tune strings too tight to the point they are in danger of breaking or too loose so that the tone they produce is unstable.)

For example, if you choose note E for the open strings, for a typical guitar two strings are already tuned to E in different octaves, string 1 and string 6, so you only have to change the tuning of the four middle strings. From the top down, the A string may be either lowered to E in the same octave as the low E or tightened to E in the next higher octave. The D string may be slightly tightened to E an octave higher than the low E. The G string may be lowered to E in the same octave as the previous string. The B string may be either lowered to E in the same octave as the previous strings, or tightened to E in the next higher octave, the octave that the last string, the high E string, is tuned to.

Next affix labels to the frets in the corresponding keyboard pattern. For example, for typically dark fretboards, when all open strings are tuned to note E you might put an optional white stripe on the guitar headstock at fret 0, and then put a white stripe on fret 1 for note F, leave fret 2 dark for F#, put a white stripe on fret 3 for G, leave fret 4 black for G#, put a white stripe on fret 5 for A, and continue in this keyboard pattern for the whole length of the fretboard. For a quick and temporary trial one may use readily available tape or mailing labels cut to the proper sizes to fit the individual frets.

Presently we are seeking label manufacturing companies to produce and market sets of quality labels for this purpose!
